Squirrel Rocks

During the Great Depression many farmers in the south could not afford the shells and cartridges for their guns to hunt for the small game that fed their families. They resorted to throwing rocks. Bags of rocks were taken to the "squirrel trees" and used as ammunition. Some of these rocks can still be found at the base of trees deep in the woods near Bogue Chitto, Mississippi.
